The Legend: The story behind the Chain Tree is both fascinating and poignant. According to local folklore: The Adivasi Guide: The British were exploring and establishing routes in the dense forests of Wayanad. An Adivasi (tribal) youth named Karinthandan, who was familiar with the region, guided a British engineer through the treacherous terrains to help him discover a safe route from the plains to Wayanad. Betrayal and Death: After successfully finding the route, the British engineer, driven by greed and the desire to take full credit for the discovery, killed Karinthandan. He shot him and buried his body under a tree. The Haunted Tree: It is said that the spirit of Karinthandan began to haunt the area, causing accidents and disturbances along the newly established route. To pacify his restless spirit, a local priest chained his spirit to a large Ficus tree at the site where he was buried. This tree came to be known as the Chain Tree.
